As long as you stick to the recommended viscosities, including the winter rating synthetic won't leak much more than conventional oil.

Never heard of winter rating synthetic..For 2015 plus should be 0w20 all year no matter where you live.

Dexos rated oils are full synthetic and the manual says to use it. 0W20 for a Gen V motor; pick your brand. No contradiction in the book.

If you ever decide to change the oil yourself or know of a shop that will charge a minimal fee for labor letting you bring the oil you will save some $$$ going full synthetic.

I would go to Walmart or online and get a Fram Ultra filter for around $9 and choose a good Dexos 0w-20 year round. Castrol Magnetec, Valvoline, Mobil 1, can all be had for around $25 or less. Get a high mileage oil if you are worried about leaks they can reduce some consumption

Yep. That will work. I am amazed at the 0W20 weight oil. I often wonder about some of the engine noises from my 2015 Silverado 5.3 L are because of the thin oil? My 2008 Tahoe Hybrid makes so many odd noises that it hides any "normal" engine sounds but it uses 10W30 so I don't worry much about it.

In my case I bring the oil to my independent mechanic [Mobil 1 0w20 and a AC Delco filter] and he changes it out for me for 10 bucks.

I recently got [2] 5 gallon jugs of Mobil 1 EP 0w20 from Walmart for 25 bucks each..Normally I get Mobil 1 AFE for about the same price which is just fine also.

It is very rare I find Mobil 1 0w20 EP in my neck of the woods..That was the first time I found the 0w20 EP in over a year..Of coarse I had to get another 6 quarts of the single quarts as our vehicles hold 8 quarts of oil.

Every so often I bring the Hoe to the dealer for regular service..I tell them to use Mobil 1 but I never really know if that is what they are putting in..I just do not trust anyone more.

That would be because there isn't. I mistyped and left out a comma after "rating". Punctuation is everything.

Guess the dealer jerked me and put regular instead of full synthetic. Sticking to full synthetic going forward.

Thanks guys!
