The LED lighting for all the buttons and switches on our new Tahoe (door switches, dashboard switches, OHC switches, climate controls, infotainment controls, etc.) automatically turns off during the day, making the buttons hard to distinguish while driving.

Scenario: Exterior lamp control is set to “AUTO.” I start up car in the garage. All the switches and buttons light up like a Christmas tree. Headlights go on. I pull out of the garage into bright sunshine. Headlights go off, DRLs go on. Instrument cluster lights stay on, but all the control button and switch LEDs go off (becoming unreadable).

Switching the exterior lamp control from AUTO to parking lamps ON or to headlights ON, makes all the button LEDs visible again. Switching the DRLs off or on makes no difference. Adjusting the instrument panel illumination control buttons makes no difference, unless the headlights are on. I have read the owner’s manual, to no avail. I can’t find any applicable “preference setting” in the infotainment system. I haven’t found any similar complaints in this forum.

Is this normal behavior?

Thank you.

Thank you! Now I won't have to bug the dealer. :)
