I can't seem to find any info about how to/what to upfit or retrofit a (Built for US) 2007+ GM SUV with to make it legal in Canada.. I am attempting to assist a buyer in the great white north with a used auto purchase (wanting a newer GM SUV) and am having some trouble in searching out a list of things that would need to be done to make the vehicle compliant with Canadian laws.. And how to accomplish them. Like DRL's, for example. They apparently have to be on anytime the vehicle is running, whereas the American version only comes on when in gear? I've found a few write ups for changing a Built for Canada vehicle back, but none for the other way around.

Don't suppose there's anyone here who's knowledgable in these matters, or maybe just someone more competent at google search than I?

:help:

My escalade is from the US i had it transfer to Canada I'm pretty sure all you need to have done is the day time running lights. And my day time lights only come on when I put it into gear.

I believe in the escalade it can all be done electronically at a dealer who can plug in and change to Canada settings. Really all you need to pass is speedo in KM and DRL. The speedometer is already set up for both and a flash will change it...I'd imagine DRL are the same. Mine is US but it was all already changed when I got it. Most cars now a days are the same for any market and changes are done via eprom flash. If you want to be sure phone GM Canada (or US), you need to contact them anyways for a recall letter. More info at www.riv.ca
I have imported a couple cars and it is fairly straitforward. Some manufacturers are dicks and want you to do dealer inspections and get French stickers and all sorts of crap to run up the bill and discourage you from importing. Porsche tried that with me. They wanted almost $2000 in crap (even an oil change???) but I got around it.

Just pay them money and have your DRL's and drive happy. you can always change out the speedo later.

1) Google RIV - Registrar of Imported Vehicles. 2) You will need to send a copy of the bill of sale and title to the port of entry 48 in advance of vehicle arrival. At the border you will have to pay the GST, PST, AC surcharge = $105, RIV fee = $212.50. 3) The Federal Government has a contract with Canadian Tire to perform the Out of Country Inspection (This is what the RIV fee covers) than you will need a provincial inspection which will require the DRL to be active when the vehicle is started. Canadian Tire will charge you for a wheel alignment not matter if you have documentation stating it just had one stateside. Let me know how it goes or if you need anymore information.

Ya I don't get the alignment thing. I've never had that required. Only reason I can see that is if it failed a provincial safety inspection and alignment was part of the fix.
