Alrighty folks, I swapped-out my thermostat on my 2000 Yukon after the truck temp pegged on the gauge AND I was getting cold air from the heater. I assumed that the thermostat was stuck "closed" so a replacement was in order.
I proceeded to drain the coolant from the system, and was expecting to collect about 4 gallons of coolant. Wrong. I ended up with about 2+ gallons--that's it.
I thought these systems were supposed to hold about 4 gallons???
The manual actually doesn't say how much coolant it holds per se, but it does give detailed instructions on the procedure to fill or top off the coolant system. Basically at the end of the day, the level should be about a half inch above the "cold" mark on the surge tank.
After swapping out the thermostat, I put in just under 3 gallons of 50/50. Didn't seem like enough.
So what is the deal here? Was I misinformed about the coolant amount?
