Leather!!! Leather!!! Leather!!!

I don't want to get into the leather until everything that is going to get leather is ready. I still have some fiber glassing to do, and I need to build the enclosure in the back to hold the Amps & Woofers. Then comes the leather...I can't do a piece here and piece there b/c I have to prioritize what pieces of what leather hides go where.

rough up the backs, and build them up with kitty hair/FG, then dynamat em.

otherwise the plastic will break after a few months, especially if it is a heavy speaker.

I was thinking the same thing, that plastic isn't stong enough to handle miles of bumps supporting a heavy woofer. I have some tiger hair ready to go, but I think I will just use some pieces of fiberglass matting. I can get a nice thin, uniform layer and strong as hell. I'm also cutting a MDF ring and fiberglassing that in, one for more support, also to mount the woofer a little further out so that monster magnet has a little more clearance, and so that the infinity grill can be used.

Just a bit of work on the kick panels. Cut out some 1/2 MDF rings for support, and they will be epoxyed, and screwed into the plastic with countersunk heads. Then I will be filling the void between the ring and plastic edge with Tiger Hair (Kinda like body filler with fiber glass mixed in) and sanding smooth to be a perfect fitting base for the infinity grills. Once that is done it will get a thin layer of fiberglass on the back side for rigidity & strength. I'm leaning toward covering them with leather when they are ready to go...

I live in Coconut Creek and work in Miami. If you need another set of hands for the engine install let me know. I did a number of installs when I was involved in Subarus. I'd love to see everything in person!

Sorry been slacking, Lot of stuff this past week, had a root canal today which wasn't too fun. This weekend I should be hitting it hard with fiberglass and building an amp rack/ Sub box.

I epoxied the rings into the kick panel and used tiger hair then a layer of body filler. Here are some shot of the work. I still need to hit the back end with a little tiger hair or fiber glass mat for additional support and then they will be done and ready to be wraped in leather...
