I just purchased my tahoe a few months ago and do all the routine maintanence on my own, I changed the oil and before I did I read in book that it takes 6 qts of oil so I bought a 5 qt jug and then a single qt of oil. After adding the 5qt jug I checked it and it read full?? do I put the 6th qt in or leave it alone?

start it up, let it run for a little bit, 20 seconds or so, shut off, let sit for another 20-30 seconds, check oil level.

I thought I read somewhere that the later tahoes and yukons had deeper oil pans allowing more oil ?! not sure how true this is!

I suggest doing it, that way for the split second on initial start up, you have oil already in the filter, so no metal/metal on first fire up.
