I just installed the both of these today and ran into something that I'm not sure about. The 4th super servo came with a blue spring to replace the stock spring. After installing and test driving I read the bottom of the 4th super servo intallation instructions and it says to use the stock spring instead of the blue spring when using the "Superior 2nd servo." I'm assuming the corvette servo is the same as that. Do I need to replace the spring? What (if any) ill effects may I have if left in?

Did you replace both pieces inside?? One is for 2nd one is for 4th I believe. I have the Vette stuff in mine, it's more then enough for our trucks with basic mods.

If I remember right the superior servo is a stronger shifting servo than the corvette but I could be wrong!! I'd look them both up and you should be able to find your answer but I'm pretty sure they are 2 different servos!

Can't answer your question, but how did the install go?
It was easy! Much easier than I expected. I did my research online before opening it up though so I knew what to look for.

Yes I replaced both. When doing so the only parts that you reuse are the pin, e-clip, and washer....everything else is new. The 4th helps out for driving on the highway and towing.

From what I've read the superior 2nd servo is also an aftermarket billet piece so I guess technically the corvette servo is stock. So yes you are right.

Oh and for the record I can't tell a huge difference. It is there, don't get me wrong, but I have a little 4.8L engine that doesn't have much output. I just wanted to do this to help the slippage (prolong transmition life) and fuel economy.

Use the blue spring with the vette servo. It's the return spring.

The superior/fairbanks billet 2nd servo is a much different design, basically a flat disc and you have to use the stock return spring. IMO, stay away from this servo. Vette servo is all you will ever need in the 4L60E.

I just realized i had a brainfart about this earlier... did you get the Superior 4th servo or the Sonnax 4th servo?

I ask because i remember that the superior servo comes with a spring while the sonnax servo only comes with a washer.

The Sonnax 4th servo is a dual piston design with it's own cover, and you must use the supplied spacer to get the right clearance.

FWIW, you won't feel much of a difference with the superior 4th servo as it really isn't much bigger than stock. The sonnax 4th servo is a dual piston design and has a substantially larger apply area.

Quick guide to 4L60E servos:

2nd servo
Factory V6 & V8 sized (about 3 or so sizes)
Factory Corvette servo (largest factory version for 60E)
Sonnax 2nd servo (~18% larger than corvette)
Superior 2nd servo (the true "billet" piece, ~30% larger than vette, NOT RECOMMENDED)

4th servo
Factory (no differences between models)
Superior super servo (single piston, ~10% larger than stock)
Sonnax 4th Super Hold (dual piston design, much larger than stock, you WILL feel the difference)

I used the Superior 4th so I went ahead and left it in since the vette servo is "stock." The Superior 4th also comes with its own cover although the stock cover might be able to be used. I figured I would go ahead and put the 4th in while I had it apart. Hopefully I'll see a little bit of a difference and if not well I guess I waisted money...
