Sorry for the confusion. I ment to say 800 or 1000 for just the labor. This is just a guess on my part. I'm in South Louisiana. I really dont know what a shop would charge for the parts. I can tell you I ordered the wrong size lower ball joints from RockAuto. They were about 32 dollars each. I had to get them from Oreilly the day of the install and paid 52 each. Pretty big difference.

thanks for the Claification Will.

SunlitComet: Heard back from the mechanic and he said the control arm bushings and pitman arm looked fine....He said he didn't remember what the parts were but said the price difference for moog parts would be minimal. From reading your comment and all the others on this forum will ask for the control arm bushings to be replaced with Ploy-E bushings. Should I go ahead and replace the Pitman arm if "it looks fine?"

All in all it sounds that the estimate I received is consistent with what it should could cost to have a shop do the work. Please let me know if I am wrong. It sounds like this is a labor intensive effort. Thanks for your help guys.

Are you located near NY let's do this!

Also for ***** and giggles take it to the NEAREST SEARS AUTO CENTER! They do suspension EVALS for free! :) See what they say just to keep them honest.

Honestly...plan on keeping you Hoe for a while they have few alignment packages that you should invest in

79.99 6 month/6K warranty
109.99 1yr/Unlimted Mileage
159.99 Unlimited Mileage

So I got a second opinion from Goodyear. They drove the hoe, put it up on the lift, tried shaking the wheels, they said was tight as hell(they were surprised there was absolutely no play)..didn't see anything obvious in the front end.. So then I asked specifically about what the other mechanic said(replacing upper/lower ball joints, inner/outer tie rod ends, idler arm and drag link) They said all that stuff looked fine. Go figure, I get two looks on the front end and both were at opposite ends of the spectrum.

The truck has 85k miles so I think I am being OCD with it and will just change the shocks when I get new tires...but I think I would like to find some new wheels (18s or 20s) before I spend on the new rubber and bilsteins. Thanks for your help guys

Still going to get the control bar bushings done with poly-E.

update. finally heard back from the mechanic that gave me the original estimate. To use Moog parts for inner and outer tie rod ends, both upper and lower ball joints, idler arm, drag link and realign the front end is 1900 as opposed to 1500w/o moog parts. to add the pitman arm 240 additional...to do the control arm bushings another 900(cuz its a 4x4). I may not know much about car repair but this to me sounds excessive. How does it sound to you guys?

Thinking it won't hurt to get a 3rd opinion. LOL Cheers!

unknown at this time.
don't ever go to that guy again. moogs parts are not a $400 premium. a cheap $22 ball joint compared to a $32 moog. several $10 -20 differences don't add up to $400 for us here. for whizzes and giggles try a third shop for estimate under a different business name and see what happens. if you have time.

85,000 mi?????? Keep the front end lubed up and drive it. I doubt that you need new bushings or ball joints unless you live in an extremely harsh environment.
