Hello All,

I'm currently in the process of looking at a 2000 z71 that has a couple of quirks. The vehicle has been in a front end collision and has been repaired. I would be buying it from the person who had the repairs done(a family member) and i noticed when i drove it that the airbag light on the dash was on? i asked about it and they have plugged it into two scanners and not found anything and it seems that the light comes and goes at will for no reason. Anyone have any idea what to look for or why? Also, the gas gauge seems to flutter when going down the road... i wouldn't say it wildly swings from E to F but it moves quite a bit considering how they normally operate. Otherwise it has fairly new tires, brake components, plugs, wires, cap distributor, intake gaskets about a year or so ago and some new body parts up front. It does have scratches but all 10 year old vehicles do and it needs balljoints, pitman arm, and idler arms and then alignment. Without prior damage considering these are going for over $7200 and the nearest vehicle i have seen are at 6500 and 6995. i think i would be getting this one around 5-5500. Needs a full detail and possibly a whole new carpet(grease and oil stains). Just want to get some opinions from you guys.

Thanks for reading this overwinded story...

Not sure on the bags. doubt anything is wrong wrong with it, it probably didnt get hit hard enough for them to deploy

Gas gauge- give me some more on that. what do mean swings? from getting off the line to braking? or always swinging?

not a bad price. shoot some pics and itll help me out. make sure your front end body panels are aligned..

I wouldnt pay 5k for an OBS. retail on mine is 8k, stealership wanted 7k, walked out with it for 4200 tax tag title out the door. it only had 103k when i got her in mint condition. and mines a 99. i think z71s and limiteds are over rated. i did find a limited local tho. they want 6k. with 180k on the clock. can you say new tranny?

the gauge is always moving like a 1/4" to either side at any speed it seemed to be just keeps moving. I don't believe the bags were deployed, but not 100% sure. this truck has around 138 on it and there are three other almost identical trucks for 7200, 7895, and i think 7995 same options and color and year mileage from 116-160ish so this one is far below those and the panels all look good. it has a cowl hood too. i just want everything to work on it. there is a 99lt with 95k for 6995 and a 99lt with 141on body and 13 on jasper replacement motor with a bunch of other little things taken care of for 6500. anywhere around me for a 98-2000 with leather is over 6000 or it's shit. i've been looking around craigslist and autotrader cars.com and even ebay. maybe i'm just to picky

My dad's 1999 Suburban's gas gauge flutters back and forth all the time too. Did it before we did the fuel pump and after. I think it's normal on these trucks. That and the oil pressure gauge drops when you brake. Nothing wrong with the oil pressure, just dips down when slowing down. I wouldn't look too far into it.

its either the sending unit in the tank, or like most, the guage itself. you can pop one of the little motors out of another cluster and put it in yours. problem solved.

Thats what my escalade guage was doing when i did the swap, i changed the actual gauge and it works perfectly now. i took off the needle and aligned it perfectly so once i hit E i am empty.. i didnt like the fact where it could go past E with still gas in it
