I just purchased a 2010 Tahoe LT yesterday with 54,000 miles. It is GM Certified pre-owned and is covered front bumper to bumper for 12 months or 12,000 miles (I extended that to 3 years/36k). I LOVE the truck but noticed 2 large cracks in the bumper today when cleaning it up that I did not find before purchasing. I plan on visiting the dealer tomorrow, do I have any options in having the bumper repaired/replaced? The dealer was great to work with (replacing bowties and interior door handle), but I was kind of miffed that this wasn't pointed out to me or noted anywhere. Thanks in advance for any insight!

If the GM rep on here could also chime in that would be helpful. Thanks.

Depends on how bad the cracks are if they will repair or replace. 9 times out of 10 the dealer will say its not their problem because its cosmetic and that you should have noticed it prior to buying the vehicle. Almost all dealers whether buying certified or not, sell used vehicles as-is, especially when it comes to cosmetic appearance.

Can you post a pic of the damage?

I agree. Most dealers are selling as is. But you never know, maybe the dealer will make it right. Keep us updated!

ISU_Cyclone,

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Tahoe!

In regards to your question, I cannot guarantee whether or not the dealer will repair or replace the bumper. All dealers are independently owned and operated. The Bumper-to-Bumper Warranty on Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles covers almost every part of the vehicle (excludes normal wear and maintenance items).

The following are not included:
- Tire damage or wear
- Damage due to bedliners
- Damage due to accident, misuse or alteration
- Collision, fire, theft, freezing, vandalism, riot, explosion or objects striking the vehicle
- Misuse of the vehicle such as driving over curbs, overloading, racing or other competition. (Proper vehicle use is discussed in the owner manual.)
- Alteration or modification to the vehicle, including the body, chassis or components, after final assembly by Chevy, Buick or GMC.
- Coverages do not apply if the odometer has been disconnected, its reading has been altered, or mileage cannot be determined.
- Damage or corrosion due to environment, chemical treatments, and/or aftermarket products
- Damage due to insufficient or improper maintenance
- Damage due to contaminated or poor-quality fuel

If they do not offer repair within the warranty, please keep in mind that most Certified Pre-Owned dealers usually offer a 3-Day/150-mile Customer Satisfaction Guarantee. If within the first three days or 150 miles of owning the vehicle you're not completely satisfied, you should be able to take it back to exchange it for a vehicle that fits your needs.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.

Please keep us posted.

Thanks for the replies! When I go in to have the bowties and door handle replaced they will look at it. I'm hoping they will replace it, considering it is only a bumper cover and they can do it at cost.

I will keep everyone posted, hopefully it works out.

UPDATE:

I went back to the dealer and showed them the damage to the bumper. They acknowledged that the damage went unnoticed by them also, but since it was a cosmetic issue, it could not be repaired under warranty.

They did however agree to go "back in time" and do what they would have done before I purchased the truck, and that was to agree to share the cost to fix it. I ended up paying $190 dollars to have it professionally repaired and repainted...it looks brand new. I believe the dealers share was $300 or so. They also replaced the bowties and interior passenger doorhandle under warranty. Besides the service rep at the dealer being a complete idiot, the used car sales manager who arranged everything was very helpful. Overall I am pleased with the result.
