Hey all! I'm hoping the combined experience here may be able to help me with my 1999 2WD 305 Yukon troubles.

I was going down the highway when it just DIED. Completely shut off. I pulled over and it wouldn't start back up. When we towed it back to the house I realized it wasn't getting spark. Pulled the alternator, but it tested fine. All the fuses and relays are good as well. After that I just went up the line replacing parts. It's got a new ignition module and coil, distributor cap and rotor, wires and plugs. The distributor itself seems to be fine. Still nothing!

There is gas, it would not start with starter fluid, the pressure in the tank seems to be fine as well and the fuel pump audibly primes.

I'm at a loss. Has anyone had experience with this type of problem before? Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

My guess would be distributor gear ring. I had the exact same thing happen before I got my crate motor. I had some teeth sheared off, and the remaining teeth were down to razor blades.

I reused my cap rotor and all at the time and just replaced the gear ring.

A quick test without removing the dist is to remove the cap, have someone turn over the engine and watch the rotor. If it spins equally then it's probably ok, but if it jerks and sputters when turning or worse doesn't turn, then its the gear ring.

i was having a similar issue. i suggest you check the ignition module as well as the crank position sensor..these parts are known to fail periodically.

:welcome: If you have determined that your distributor is rotating with engine cranking you should look into a grounded or intermittently grounded Ignition Control (IC) signal circuit, a defective crank sensor that is not providing a rpm reference or a defective coil or coil wire. As well check for a blown ECM or ENG fuse under the hood.
