Hey guys, you have Newbie here with a question...
I just got an 02 Tahoe z71 last week and am already posting about issues. I hope this isn't a trend. I get this strange noise when I go over bumps occasionally. At first I thought i heard it from the front left but my dad rode in the backseat the other night and said he thought it was coming from the back. Its kind of like a growl/creak/popping when I hit a bump. It doesn't do it every time though and I don't have to be pulling, I can be coasting or pulling.
ALSO, the other night when I was pulling out of a parking space, we noticed this loud growl of a different pitch. It didn't do it when I backed up. Just when I started forward. My dad jumped out and walked beside it while I eased up. He said it sounded like the back axle. after a little ways of driving it went away.
I had the growl/grinding noise appear this morning when I went over a speed hump and it just kept growling til I stopped completely and started moving again. This makes me think the noise when going over bumps and the growl/grind are related or the same noise.
Took it to a dealership today and they said the growl/grinding noise while moving is something in the rear diff. they were gonna charge me over 200 bucks just to service the rear end to see what was up. Needless to say I'm going to take it to another mechanic.
Any ideas? Sorry for being long winded...
