In a case like this, the frame will give before the bumper does...but the bumper will take the brunt of the force...frame straightening is alot cheaper than a new vehicle...lol

And I figured it out a while back before I set pricing...after material pricing, then profit margin, it works out to about $10/hr for my labor...so Im not getting rich here, just supporting my family....This isn't a paying hobby, it is what I do for a living...

Pics I dug up of one built for a customer in OK

Here is one I did a while back for a customer in OK. Built it to fit his 07 one ton Classic...I know it looks huge, but its not any larger than the OEM bumper...I would have built it a little thinner, but I build them to the owners request. I powder coated this one copper metallic, to match the trailers he pulls behind it.

Last time I checked with him, he still hasn't bought the rest of the lights for it yet...

Gunrunner, you do sweet stuff. I guess your Kennesawmountainaccesories official competitor for OBS trucks, they made me a pretty sweet bumper but there customer service leaves a lot to be desired truthfully. Welcome to the site! Post some pics of your OBS ha. You got one right?!

yea but my bumper/brushguard trashed my frame fenders hood lights grill busted radiator and all kinds of shit. the bumper didnt bend hardly it just pushed everything back. and after fixing all that and getting it repainted you end up with something that is worth 1/2 as much as you got in it. the body shop said if i didnt have the hellashious bumper i would of had to replace the stock bumper and brackets and the grill and i would have been good to go. moral of the story is if your gonna be sporting a bumper like that full coverage is sweet :)

i guess its like wearing a seatbelt. i know some people that wouldnt be here if they had their seatbelt on and i know some that wouldnt be here if they had not put their seat belt on

Kickitandholdit, I completely agree with you on your statements. There is however ways to strengthen your front end along with the bumper, which is what I'm doing with my set up. I'll try to have pics Friday.

Thanks

Yes'r...I've got one...99 2 door...nothing really special to look at yet....bought it a couple of years ago. Its a retired DEA surveillance vehicle that I picked up from a Govt auction...Looks like they literally plowed through thick patches of mesquite trees with it (read bad scratches)...worst part is the Maaco like paint job...it was white and they shot it a dark metallic blue....but everything on it is HEAVY HEAVY duty...lol...even the heavy is heavy...weirdest thing I've noticed compared to other OBS hoes, is the fact it has a 4L80E in it...

Kennesaw does make some nice looking stuff, but they are on the top of a short list on the bad customer service listing...not to mention long wait times....5-7 weeks for a bumper...on average, I can start one and have it out the door in 5-7 business days...I have noticed most major manufacturers use 5 pieces for the face of a bumper...center, wings, end caps...look at my design, there are 7 instead...I think it helps keep the lines more along that of the OEM style...not so boxy, or too geometric....

Once I get a chance to wash all the mud off of it, I will snap some pics of it...

So true...you can box up and reinforce the frame to get rid of the "give areas" of the frame...but one thing to keep into consideration there....any energy not absorbed by the vehicle, will be transmitted into the occupants....

Thats why you'll see import cars crushed up like a aluminum can, but everyone walks away fine....
