Dealer rip off or legitimate cost?

2015 Yukon XL Denali with 62,000 mostly highway miles. Message came on recently stating "service driver assist". Dealer charged me $210 to determine cause and told me it was 2 things causing this. One was a front bumper sensor ($866.19 to replace because bumper needs to be removed), and the other was the Haptic seat motor ($503.25 to replace). Oh, and $90 to paint the new sensor.

Does anyone have any experience with this. Everything works fine, it's just that the message has to be turned off every time I start the truck. Not a big deal but when I trade or sell someone will want to know what is causing this.

$503 for seat sensor?!?!?! Bought mine off Amazon for $25 and replaced it myself.
As for the sensor, not sure if it can replaced with bumper in place or not...

Find a another dealer...

It's legit but you can save a bundle by doing the repairs yourself if able. My daughter backed into a tree and that was $5500. Her boyfriend backed into my front fender and that will be $2500.

Inflation is expensive.

Was that an OEM sensor that you found for $25??
GM seems to be awfully proud of these newer seat sensors, bumper sensors, and airbag sensors. $500-$800 for a sensor is not unheard of.
I know OEM is always preferable, but with a price difference like THAT, I will gladly try using an aftermarket sensor.

I recently did a park assist sensor on the rear bumper of a 2011? Tahoe and the GM RA sensor was $170. The vehicle owner opted for the Bosch sensor for less than $30. Look what you would need to do to replace that bumper sensor on you tube first. Also, the paint for that sensor can be bought in a can and my customer just let the black dot show. I would only do the bumper sensor first because I don't believe the other sensor is needed.

you can search online with the part number, try ebay, amazon, rock auto or even check with a higher end wrecking yard. you can replace the parts yourself but depending on the front bumper sensor it may require a require a calibration with a high end scanner or dealer tool.
if it is just a parking sensor it shouldn't need a calibration but if it is a sensor for cruise or forward crash detection then it needs a calibration.

By the way, it is easy to diagnose if the sensor is needed. Use the park assist however you would to move close going forward or reverse and do not set parking brake. I used my mechanic's stethoscope and used my ear cup attachment. If the sensors are activated, you should hear a faint pulse effect, like a Geiger Counter. You tube videos about this. Some people use an app on their phone that listens and records and shows decibel readings. If you are close to PNW and Eugene, Or., let me know. I can do all this for you.

as has been said, find another dealer or a highly rated independent . the have current software to talk to the sensors. or find someone with a tech 2 to scan it for you. heck, i'd go to autozone and have the codes pulled myself to verify they came back. I bought a set of parking sensors for $75 on amazon(or e-bay). a buddy helped me remove the rear bumper. the sensors were easy to replace after soaking them for a bit. now it still says to service park assist, but it actually works now. so just a pita to see the message. i worked at new car dealers for 25 years. if you can find an honest one, hold on tight. Most just want your money , ask you to over service your vehicle. beware!

You should be able to turn off the haptic feed back in the vehicle settings, and see if the warning still comes back. At least you ll know the parking sensor is actually at fault as well. You might be able to turn off the parking assist and see if the service warning goes away as well. I don't have parking sensors, so I don't know if that works the same.

I was told by the guy that I worked on his Tahoe park sensors, that the system is just on and cannot be turned off but when a warning light comes on he can turn that off. I may have misunderstood what he was saying and this statement is incorrect.
