It's possible that I can't live without having black 22" wheels on a Tahoe.

It's also possible that not many of the remaining 2016 inventory have them.

Has anyone had success asking a dealer to add the wheels to an in-stock truck that doesn't have them?

Otherwise I have a good proxy picked out from TireRack, which would actually be cheaper than the 22" OEM wheel option alone, but more expensive than having to buy the truck with 20" wheels and then buy the 22" aftermarket.

Thoughts?

I have been told that if it is configured with a certain wheel that they do not switch but that could change from dealer to dealer.

My GM Dealer stocks just about every configuration available from the factory and will upgrade any Truck/SUV to what the factory offers as an option. I was at the dealer Monday and saw several new units being off loaded from trailers with plain black steel wheels. I asked my salesman about it and he explained that so many buyers want to select a custom wheel/tire combo that many dealers have started stocking most of the Chevy/GMC/Cadillac combinations so the buyer could make a decision at time of purchase.

Not a bad idea.

You are limited only by the size of your wallet.

My local dealer has a big wheel display in the parts department. They also have several on the ground with the 2nd window sticker showing wheels that were added at the dealer.

Going from 20s to 22s (or back the other way) is also not an issue. Dealer hooks up the computer to the truck and reprograms the settings. This brings your speedo in line with actual speed.

Mine defaulted to the position of the paperwork states a certain wheel and they could not swap out. Now I'm trying to figure out best way to turn my chrome inserts black.

Vast majority of dealerships do this for liability reasons unless (1) you're buying your vehicle outright and (2) they have a used vehicle with the wheels you want

They don't switch them between new vehicles

It all depends on the dealer. A family friend got her 2015 SLT upgraded to the OEM 20s off the Denali and the dealer did it to help sweeten the deal and make the sale. They didn't even have to ask. It all depends on how much customer service the dealership has. Some out right just don't care about pleasing the customer and won't swap out the wheel, whereas some will go the extra length to make the deal happen and make the customer happy.
