After much frustration, I finally find the vehicle I want: a Yukon Denali with the Reserve Package, which has every single feature I would want. I had been in the process of moving from Miami to the DFW area. Dealer was one of the few that was reasonable when it comes to being near MSRP in my area. I am excited I don't have to wait 3-4 months of my rapidly depreciating vehicle to get what I want. I put a deposit on it so that when I finally move to this area I can just go and finish up the deal.
I tell my sales advisor I am on my way and would be there the next day. Well the next day comes and I am on the final leg of my trip. I get a call from a different Sales Manager. He asked me if I put a deposit and I say yes. Well he told me there was a mistake and misunderstanding. My deposit was linked to the stock number of the vehicle (which is apparently different when its in transit vs in the lot) and not the VIN number. As a result they sold the car I put my deposit are. I let him have it, and he apologized profusely and say that they are trying to find a car with the identical features and options... even offered to give me a "car" in the mean time. My sales advisor is as upset as I am. Clearly some other sales advisor and manager bought it under us (assuming all of the above is true).
So it is back to searching for a car I want. While I will be searching for other cars, I will be seeing what they do for me. I am incredibly glad that I put my deposit on a CREDIT CARD as insurance that this exact thing would happen.
Yes I will be looking at other dealers, but this market is beyond challenging and frustrating.
I will keep you all posted on the outcome of this issue.
