That was basically what ended up happening with mine, but it was tread separation between the plies. 2 tires had what felt like air bubbles, small humps about 2x4" that you could see if you got eye level with the tread. Been almost 2 years since I replaced them and haven't had any issues yet.I'll throw my 2 cents in . The only time we ever experienced the high speed wobbles on a stock 04 Tahoe was when running older studded tires down the I-5. I immediately removed them and have not had a problem since.
The front end had recently been rebuilt with Moog parts so kinda ruled out loose link issues, although the alignment was not perfect. I figure the soft rubber compound combined with low tire pressures (winter driving) lead to the carcass sidewall deforming at speed.
