I have a 2001 yukon xl with a 5.3. It has 246k miles on it. It gets pretty bad mileage imo and ive heard from boat guys that mercury power tune wich is basicly like seafoam spray to decarb your engine will help a lot. Im a little concerned that taking all the carbon off quickly like that might be too rough on an older engine so im wondering if anyone else has done this. i just want to make sure it wont do more harm than good. Tia if you can help at all

Its a spray that you put into the intake with it running. A lot of people say it works great for everything carburated or fuel injected but i cant find much about people using it on something with a lot of miles

Well, if you are getting poor mileage, start with an additive to clean your fuel injectors. In the old days we hooked up a can of Echlin to our fuel rails and ran the motor off of that until it was empty. Now I just drop a couple of those $.97 bottles of fuel-injector cleaner from Walmart in a full tank of gas. Helped some in my case. Clean throttle plate, MAF, fresh plugs and wires, clean fluids, all contribute to increased and restored efficiency.

Top tier fuels of course garner increased mpgs but more importantly, the detergents in them help keep the parts they come in contact with cleaner.

Is that the same type of spray that goes into the intake?
No, it goes into the oil at about 1000 miles before the next scheduled change and into the fuel. I have some but haven't put it in yet. There's been alot of people here who have used it, with amazing results as far as cleaning the engine. Look into it, there's threads on here and lots of testimonials on the web.
