BTW my fuse under the hood was blown.

These compressors have about a 5 year life. GM should have enclose them.
(13mm deep socket), loosen the 3 nuts about 1/2 way (one is accessed from the other side of the frame thru a hole), then smack the end of the socket a couple times to push the slotted bolt in, then the entire carriage will slide up and off at a slight angle to the rear.My shocks look like your second shock- ok as far I can tell. That first one of yours is gone.....
You will loosen 3 nuts 1/2 inch socket- but not fully remove them.
Take a hammer - yes a hammer- and bang on the compressor box frame to move it up and back, then you can pull it. Disconnect harness and air lines. Use a ratchet to reinstall.
