Difference between 403HP Escalade and 380HP Denali motor?

What is the difference between the motors that creates 23 more horsepower in the 2007-2008 Escalade over the same year Denali??

I know that in 2009, both have the 403hp motor but, 2007 and 2008 the Denali showed 380 while the Escalade always showed 403. The motors look exactly the same. Did the Denali always have higher compression?
