my buddy bought a bigger boat a while ago and had trouble getting it out of the ramp with his 2wd F150. we had 6 damn cubans in the bed, dropped tire pressure and still could get it out. so we used my 4x4 2001 tahoe to pull it. definately didnt pull it down the road as easy as his truck but we never had to worry about getting it out of the water.

a few weeks ago he traded the ferd for a 2005 z71 tahoe. awesome truck and i have to say im kinda jealous. anyway, his tahoe seems to pull the boat down the road much easier than mine. and brake much better while towing. both are completely stock except mine has a CAI. what gives?

the Ford had an enemic 5.4 or worse, 4.6...

yours is an 01 and his is an 05, I think there were motor changes in HP and TQ in 03-06.

Letme do some digging.

Are you sure yours has 3.73's, or 3.42's?

Both of you have stock sized tires?

As far as braking goes, do you have a vacuum booster and he has a hyrdoboost? My 05 LS has the Hydroboost, and stopping trailers is not an issue.

as far as the 5.4 goes, i have to admit, its had nice power. pulled around town alot easier than my 5.3. but i could cruise the boat at a higher speed in my truck down the highway. now the 4.6 in the trucks is junk, yes. not much more power than the v6.

i have vacuum booster. i really have to push the brakes to stop that boat. i have read where some guys convert to the hydroboost. i cant find the thread now though.

i have 3.73s. GT4 option. i think there was a 10hp increase in 03+ but that should be enough to feel the difference i do in the trucks. i would think at least.

Assuming that you both have the same gearing, how many miles are on your 2001? Could your engine just be getting tired out due to age and miles? maybe.
