distributor replacement

i want to replace,has any one done this should i go with an oe or can i get a higher performance brand

well that heater hose came loose a while back a soaked everything behind the block pretty good so i replaced alot of stuff so i just decided to replace it for the hell of it also my truck has alot of miles its prob the original and the 2 screws that hold the cap on are broke so i threaded some zip ties through it to hold the cap down

Get a factory replacement distributor, performance cap,rotor and msd coil.

yep, or take yours apart, add new module, and AC Delco cap or all in one Hypertech coil/cap.

i just put a post asking about this. Saw a kit at pep boys and was interested in the learning if any one has used the kit, it wasn't OEM, or if using an MSD would be a better choice. This kit pretty much was just the Cap and Rotor and couple of additional pieces.

Go with the one I posted, I've been running it for a while without problems. The cap and rotor is the same quality as a MSD one, same brass terminals and button. It is a great built dizzy. Only thing I changed on it was the ignition module, opted to change it out with one from these guys:

It is easy if you mark how the original is sitting.

If not you can just get cylinder #1 to TDC then install the distributor, get the timing down and you are ready to go.

+1 on the Ebay dizzy! I dont have this exact one but the ones built with aluminum housing is much better than the cheap OE plastic crap. Its cheap but built well.

As for install like they said mark the dizzy and get it as close as possible.
