Do I actually have a block heater and never knew it?

I didn't even know I had one until I was deciphering my RPO codes and found K05 (Heater Eng Block) and I went to look for it. It was just like you described, a 110v male cord tied up near the front driver side.

It's amazing how you never know until you finally look for it.

I don't know. I'm gonna pull the window sticker out when I get home tonight. Still at work. I had no idea I had one. Any clue what else would have come with the cold climate package besides a block heater? How do these work? Anyone know? As in where is the heater and what does it actually heat? The coolant, oil...what?

On a sticker in the glove box. Along with your vin and paint code.

Now that you mention it I do remember seeing it in there!

Take a picture of it, then download it and print it out. Then do a Google search for 1999 GM RPO Codes and you should be able to find a complete list of the codes for your year. Look up the codes from your rig in the list and find out all sorts of info about your rig. It's interesting and fun.

Pretty much all GM vehicles whose initial dealer to be delivered to is above the Mason-Dixon line have block heaters. There's an internal memo about it or something like that. Might explain why it's not on the paperwork, it's just assumed.

Interesting. Well I guess you learn something new everyday. I wonder if they still do that? Or if it was just these older ones
