Change the oil and other fluids regularly with good quality stuff, don't abuse it (in gear and WOT before the starter is even done cranking the engine), fix stuff when it breaks, use good quality gas. It isn't that difficult. People just don't seem to want to care for stuff any more. Getting 200k miles out of a vehicle isn't that hard to do if it's taken care of well. My dad's 2000 2500 has about 350k miles, his old 94 had over 300k before it was retired, a buddy of mine has a 05 with 330k miles, a vendor at work has a 05 or 06 with 570k miles, and I saw an 08 years ago that had 800k miles on it. I could go on but there's no need. They spare no expense in taking care of their vehicles and have been rewarded. I also think most people have gotten used to having car payments and would rather just keep buying new cars and have a payment forever.

Agreed, What I've noticed today is that people rather make payments on a new car and have something fairly new, than to keep maintenance up on their older vehicle. I've noticed this pattern with some people I know personally, seems they change vehicle every 2 years and make payments into it which makes no financial sense to me, but hey to each their own, right?

Just keep an eye on maintenance if something is failing replace it, and do it with quality parts. Trust me it might seem like a good deal to go cheaper on some things but it isn't worth it if you plan to keep your truck for a while. While some things might be a little obsessive to some, they are worth it to me, knowing that I can rely on that without having to worry about it. An example would be tires. I always try to go with quality tires usually Michelin, they aren't cheap but I know I can rely on them, I always hate to see fairly new cars with cheap Chinese tires whats the point, but then again I an eye for other people's taste.

I agree on tires. I can't see skimping on the only thing that connects the vehicle to the road. Bad tires can completely ruin a driving experience. When I bought my 08 it was a one owner truck with 134k miles on it. The tires were about 25% left and it had the 18" wheels. It vibrated at highway speeds and wandered all over the road. I replaced all four control arms with new GM ones because three of the ball joints had some play, did a proper alignment (where caster and camber were set to spec even though they were "green"), upgraded the wheels to some 22" take off wheels, and put Michelin Defender LTX tires on it and now it rides and drives better than any 15+ truck I've driven (and I've driven a lot of them). I've wondered if the original owner knew how much of a difference a few thousand dollars would have made to this truck if they would have still wanted to spend ~$80k on a new one.
