Anybody have a schematic laying around you can post? Never messed with my door latches, curious what I'm getting into.

Have to roll the window down to let myself out.

Thanks

There's most likely gonna be rods that are used. It probably fell off due to a broken clip. Not hard to check but I don't have any schematics..

Willing to bet that the plastic end where the rod connects is broken

The advanced auto and pronouns stocks the replacement interior door handle as this is a common breaking item. They are about 15-30 and they are an easy fix.

You will remove the door screws. Lift up. And the panel should come free and you can unscrew the handle assembly from the rear of the door and replace with a new on. Dads 96 we replaced the drivers inside handle about 4x in its 10 year life

Thanks for the feed back. I should also add that when I open the door (from the outside) and then go through the motion of opening the inside handle as I would to open the door, the action is the same as in there is resistance, handle doesn't move freely, but I hear something at the latch, sounds and feels exactly like it would normally, but the latch just doesn't open up.

Does the linkage break near the handle or near the latch? This seems like the rod is still attached to the latch but something is broken in the latch itself? Is this possible?

It has taken several weeks to break "completely", has worked on the 2nd or third try for about two weeks, then the other day just quit working all together.

Pulling the door panel off is not a problem, just envisioned having to get my hand behind a metal plate up in the door where I can't see????

Thanks for all the help.

So check this out. Inside handle will engage the door latch still, pull rod is still attacked an the linkage is not broken.

But it is not moving the latch far enough to actual "open" the latch....

If I stick my hand up in the door and feel the latch moving, the outside handle will pull down on the latch mechanism about 3" or so, opening the latch and thus the door. When I try and use the interior handle it only moves the latch mechanism 1.5" or so, not far enough to engage the latch mechanism to open the door.

So do I just need a new latch?

Guess ill pull it all apart and figure it out since I seem to be the only one why has experienced such a problem.

The plastic handle is probably bent and can't open the latch completely any more. Buy a whole new door handle from the auto parts store.

It's a common problem for the inside and outside door handles to break on these trucks.

Yep. Plastic handle. Wasn't broken all the way, just cracked enough that it wouldn't fully engage the latch. New one works fine.

Thanks for the help.
