Hello from Germany. I want to test the 1/4 mile in May with my 1996 Tahoe K1500 2-door – just for fun and to see if I can get the best times, not by any stretch! I want to drive once in 2WD and once in 4WD. Are the same speeds possible in 4WD HIGH as in 2WD HIGH, or will everything explode in my face?

your fine, just do not do it in 4lo and keep it straight, 1/4 mile is pretty short regardless

So long as you keep the front wheels pretty straight, no problem.
What are your axles' ratio, and what's your tire size?

Assuming 3.42 & 245/75R16, in 2WD or 4HI ...
Elapsed Time will likely be ≈ 16.7, Trap Speed ≈ 81MpH

Lemme see something ... IFF you're crazy enough to try 4LO(!)
Assuming the transfer case ratio is 2.72 ...
Just remember that your top speed will be 87MpH.
Likely a bad idea to drag race in 4LO, especially since you'll need to come to pretty much a full stop
and then switch to 2WD or 4HI to turn without damaging anything.
