Thats all good and well but it does not say anything to the underlying root issue that is making these airbags explode. Ammonium Nitrate without a drying agent. Its fair that none have gone off, but GM is not addressing the fact that this design is uncontrollable. Add 10-15 more years of age temperature cycles and humidity and lets see if any have defected. Literally the manufacturer that made the airbag says they are not safe, but the company that bought the air bags says they are not, i would rather believe the folks that built them.

I can respect that the design is safer, but they are neglecting to address the primary issue which is instability. I cant find the article right now, but I did stumble across data that showed these airbags have already started expanding on actuation which is the first step to them exploding.
Ok, right there, you talk about “what is making these airbags explode” yet NOTHING is making them explode, not in GM vehicles. Show me the data that shows they are exploding. They have proven to be stable. People are spreading fear and misinformation. Takata did not specifically address the bags they built for GM. You can believe what you want, but to spread information that does nothing but create fear when there is absolutely no proof that these particular airbags pose any danger is irresponsible IMO. As stated by facts, not one single airbag has yet to explode in a GM SUV or truck. If even one does, you’ll hear about it. Then maybe you can justify being a tiny bit worried. Not even one, out of millions, as of now. Think about that. Your gas tank suddenly exploding has as much a chance, if not more. There’s plenty of other things to worry over, this isn’t one of them.

There’s been about zero of these in our SUV’s going off. They’re supposedly different than the ones that have exploded, made to GM specs. They have been tested ballistically and also in the field with zero failures, even the rusty ones from the high humidity areas of the country.

“In the filing, GM says the front-passenger inflators were custom-made for its trucks by Takata with bigger vents and stronger steel end caps than other inflators. No truck inflators have blown apart on roads or in extensive laboratory testing, the company says.”
thats what they said about the ignitions and fires

safe safe safe..

it's hard to trust someone that lied and covered up the faulty ignitions.

3 recalled on the same "fire" issue /... (they actually had to replace the valve covers and gaskets )

they actually did not replace the ignition they put a band aid fix

so many killed because they wanted to save a 1/10th fraction of a cent...

you know I could still pull out the key on that ignition without putting it in park
and start it with a screw driver
so it did have a secondary fault with that particular ignition

the key can be removed from the ignition switch with the shifter not in the park position...

also my grandpa had his Transmission cable snap on it this nearly caused a ROLL AWAY... TWICE (one with the old cable and one with the new cable)
this is a recallable offense.. they refused to do anything about it claiming normal wear and tear..

luckily the 2nd time it snapped ( THE VERY next day after it getting repaired at the Caddlic dealer) we were not parked on a hill... (where he normally parked it)

they still refused to acknowledge it.... and claimed it was incorrectly installed...the second time.. others had the same issue with the transmission cable snapping as well
it shows its a major issue..and not a isolated incident .....

they still have not compensated me for using my tow service... even thought they said they would..

I would accept an oil change service as compensation for using my tow service..

a 30 miles tow service would have cost them about 100$...

I think this is the ole glass half full vs glass half empty discussion. Ide rather not wait until someone is hurt or worst to act, ide rather scope the data and make a decision. When the company that built a product says their product is not safe, yet the company that purchased a lot of these products (who will have to spend money to fix) says they are “reasonably” safe to “drive” but says nothing about someone sitting in the passenger seat.. ide prefer to listen to the folks that built the product.
