If it rotates clockwise looking at it from the back, it will look counter-clock looking from the front....no?

Depends on if you're in drive or reverse........or moving at all for that matter.

OMG. EDIT counter-clockwise as you're looking at the driveshaft or the xfer case shaft from the rear of the truck. The only way you can see the xfer case output shaft is from the rear of the truck since it's likely in a tailhousing. It's convention.

Wrong. Forget the driveshaft. If you look at a clock from the front face, it turns clockwise.

If you look at the same clock from the back, its counter clockwise.

In relation to my original question, i asked looking from the back, towards the transfercase, which way does it turn.

I think the question refers more to when you say it turns counter clockwise is that generally referenced as your looking straight towards the back or from the back towards the front. Same argument as if your looking at the front of a vehicle the driver side is the right side and passenger side is the left. If your sitting in the truck the passenger side is now the right hand side according to the person sitting in it. I understand where your going phoneman but they are probably mechanics. The right and left or clockwise counter clockwise is the same to a mechanic no matter where he's looking at it when it comes to vehicles.
