2001 GMC Yukon-

Out of nowhere I started having a scraping sound on my driver's side window when using it. It is the sound of metal grinding on the glass and it is starting to put holes in my interior window tint. The holes are not in one single area... it is sporadic all over the bottom of the window area.

I took apart the door and tried to find if there was something scraping but could not identify the problem. I check the window seals at the top to see if there is a rock or something stuck there but no luck.

Anyone have this happen to them? It is an awful sound and I don't know how much abuse the window will be able to take.

Thanks!

Take the door apart again and plug in the window switch and run it up and down with it open. To try and identify the problem.

Thanks, I actually did do that. I also pulled out the weather stripping that the window goes between and ran it without that in place and it is still making the grinding sound. Stuck a flashlight in the door to try and see where it is happening but no luck. Tried using my phone as a camera to see in the areas where I couldn't but still no luck. The noise is coming from the top left side of the door. Really odd...

Could be dirt. Tint on my trailblazer was perfect. My mom used it and never gave a damn to clean the dirt out of the inside of the windows and ruined all the tint...

Figured it out! Found a small rock wedged in the vertical weather stripping of the door. It must have been lodged in the horizontal weather strip and then after scratching the crap out of my tint got pushed to the side. Pulled it out and everything is back to normal. Thanks for your suggestions!
