Could have been off for replacement glass or even some kind of adjustment after it was delivered. Automakers have a long history of spotty assembly practices, especially if they were on the assembly line the Friday before a long weekend.Parts came in yesterday. I was able to fix it today. I tapped on the motor with a hammer and it went back up enough for me to easily reach the bolts to loosen it from the window. I went ahead and replaced the regulator and the motor. The motor seemed to be the issue as the regulator was fine.
I bought this truck from the original owner with about 35k miles on it 11 or so years ago. I was surprised to see that someone had already been in the door. The screw behind the lock was missing and the water screen had been taped back on with masking tape.
A friend of mine bought a '69 Chevelle brand new. Custom ordered from the factory. He was going nuts trying to find a clanking noise inside the cabin every time he made a hard turn or hit a bump. They finally found the issue. It was a beer bottle left inside the passenger door. It turns out his car was on the assembly line the Friday before July 4th holiday! I am told on the job drinking was not uncommon back then and was even worse as the week gets closer to the end (or holidays, or the week before shutdowns or Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, sometimes Thursdays, birthdays, after funerals, before lunch, any time before noon... or after noon...).
Explains a lot on why the 60's and 70's were not exactly known for high build quality.
