I was wondering if I could damage the tranny by driving with the Tow/trailer button ON when not towing nothing . The reason I ask is cause I have 26" wheels on a 4.8LS , and I just noticed that when I have it ON my shifts are alot crisper and response better since it has higher shift points .if never towed anything nor plan to , that's why I ask .
Thanks

rosendo192000,

Could you please provide me with your VIN so I can see what transmission you have? I would like to look into this for you.

Thank you,

You won't hurt the tranny......the only thing you'll probably hurt is your gas mileage.

Ouch, a 4.8 with 3.23 gears and 26" rims is probably painfully underpowered in the city.

Tow haul will reduce milage because you're pulling more RPM on average.

Tell me about it , I got use to it . That's why I asked , since it seems to have better pick up abd responce with tow button on .

rosendo192000,

Operating the vehicle in Tow/Haul when lightly loaded or with no trailer at all will not cause damage. However, there is no benefit to the selection of Tow/Haul when the vehicle is unloaded. Such a selection when unloaded may result in unpleasant engine and transmission driving characteristics and reduced fuel economy. Tow/Haul is recommended only when pulling a heavy trailer or a large or heavy load. This was taken from your owner’s manual.

Thank you

SW CT,
Not going to hurt a damn thing...actually in your particular situation it may actually help...not by feeling crisper, or better shifts, but helping your trans live a bit longer. 26's with 3.23 and a 4.8 is just asking for trouble...I would save some coin for a gear swap, the 4.8 is a pretty stout motor for its size so going to something like a 4.10 gear ratio will make it feel like a whole new truck with more than enough go power with those 26's.

Thanks bro , I take it really easy on the tranny (I.e take off slow till it gains speed ) I was looking into getting my gears changed but never found the right info. On what I needed or where to buy them ,much less find a reliable shop around town to have them installed . (Bayarea CA) ..
