i think you are putting too much throught and effort into it...we used to launch out 27 ft fountain with a 2wd ext cab chevy..just put it in reverse, back down the ramp, and put it in park when you get to where you need to be..back the boat off...loading do the same..back it down the ramp, load the boat on the trailer, and put it in first and pull up the ramp..

I have a 2" drop for a jetski trailer, I do fine in 2wd in the Tahoe, I've NEVER had to kick it into 4. Sounds to me like you need to back up further to reduce the friction on the trailer when you're backing up the boat.

Also look into some bunk slides.

I have a 5" drop on mine. I have no issue launching my 20' Chaparral. I used to run a 2" drop and had no issues either. There is no reason you should be slipping when launching or after, even in 2wd. Other than the occasional wheel slip on a loose surface.

What kind of trailer do you have? If you have a tandem axle trailer then lowering your hitch could affect the tongue weight if the weight isn't evenly distributed on both axles with the higher hitch.
