So my tahoe was stolen on 11/21/2009 in Bakersfield and they stolen the rims, stereo and the battery. I talked to insurance and have the option to buy it back for $1500 since it's salvaged. A drop kit was in the plans before but this made it final! What is the best drop on these? I heard Mcgaughy's in the #1 used kit. How is the ride? What shocks is recommended front/rear for this kit? I will be doing the 3/5 with a 305/35/24 or 295/35/24 with a 30 or so rim offset. What exactly is the "free travel mod" and are helper bags recommended to help the ride? Pics of tahoe's 3/5'd would be awesome!

mcgaughys has a nice kit
the belltech progressive rate spring feels great
I have 295/35/24, 40mm offset. I rub on the front

Bilstein HD's no matter what kit you get for drop shocks

the ride could be better than stock if you get some nice shocks

the free travel mod is cutting the rear bump stop bracket completely off the frame and relocating shorter rubber bump stops somewhere else along the frame, this allows for about 5-6" more "travel" for people riding with a 3/5 kit

I have helper bags but my rear isn't low enough yet to need them but it is recommended if you plan to still tow or have weight in the back

pic in sig of my Belltech 3/5 I still need rear drop shocks so the back has more room to come down

I'm running a 3/5 over a set of 305/35/24 wheels using McGaughys drop spindles and rear 5" springs, shock extenders, and crappy Toxic drop shocks. The ride isn't too bad but can definitely be made better with a better set of shocks and even a set of rear helper bags.
The "free travel mod" is removing the rear bumpstop mounting brackets from the frame and relocating the bumpstops. With the brackets removed, you gain a couple inches of suspension travel to keep from bottoming out the axle/frame.
Welcome to the site, btw:cheers:

Thanks guys, my friend found a Mcgaughys kit for under $500 with shocks....so I will prob go that route. I have a bagged truck so I need to lower the tahoe lol I wont be towing or anything.....just 2-12's no 3rd row seating. I should be good without the helper bags correct with some nice shocks?

Will the HD shocks work in the front/rear? The stock shocks have 80k on em and might as well replace all four when I do it.....also where does everyone relocate there bumpstops to?
