More justified if you're engine is already blown and you want to keep the truck. That was one of the options we kicked around with the shop when replacing the engine in my tahoe, but cost added up fast and a remanufactured 5.3 was the more economical route. Then again we were looking at new a diesel and tranny, probably wouldn't be too bad if you had a donor car.
