What engine combination you talkin about. the genral "is E-85 worth it" question can mean anything from gocart to 40psi 4Cyl monster.

Its worthless on a stock compression and or non forced induction motor.

If you have a fill station with it close by, you can play around with a 30-40% mix of E85 and 93, to see some marginal gains. Due to ECU not pulling timing from detonation. But other than that. Dont waste your time.

Everything you wanted to know about E85

There is a intermidiate thread somewhere at DSMtuners.

Here's what I found

I've got a 2003 z71 tahoe with the 5.3 flex, and here's what I found with E-85. When I run regular fuel, I get about 14 city, 18 hwy. When I run E-85, I get the same 14 city but only about 14 hwy. I mostly do city driving, so for me it works out better, but if I did any hwy driving, I'd really have to think about using it or not.

I would say no it is not worth it. I tried it in my tahoe and got 3-4 mpg less. Not worth it in the long run.

It isn't even widely available here in Utah and if it is it costs about the same or slightly less. Regardless I'm not going to be their long term test bed since a lot of the fuel system parts I believe are only covered for 3 years or 36k. It is true that you can produce more power with it if your engine is tuned for it. I wish they would stop subsidizing the corn farmers and only use corn for what it was supposed to be used in the first place. Country could save about $5-10 bil a year by giving up on corn fuel.

In my opinion E85 is only an alternative if a. gasoline isn't available or b. you don't want to purchase gasoline for social/economic reasons. I've run quite a few tanks through my 09 Tahoe and find that the lower MPG is not worth the slightly lower price at the pump. My accelleration also suffers with E85. From launch it's noticably slower. Also, in Austin, TX there are only 2 E85 pumps and neither are very close to my house or work so I don't feel the need to go way out of my way to buy it.

I tried a couple of tanks of it and with the price, it wasn't worth it with the decreased mileage.. used an online calculator and it basically said that E85 would have to be like 90 cents less a gallon to make it worthwhile..
