Lemme run down what I know, and how best to explain the sound.

It started a few weeks ago, barely inaudible, and felt like it was still the same noise it always made. Yesterday, driving around in the flood water, it suddenly became VERY pronounced. So much so I was afraid I was driving around with no fluid suddenly. Pull over to check the fluid, following the procedure to make sure the fluid is cycled (P->R->N->D->3->2->1->2->3->D->N->R->P) and the fluid level is on the money.

The noise most audible under acceleration, although the transmission didn't stutter or shake, or slip. The while is also audible when slowing down, as the tranny starts to down shift.

The noise is DEFINITELY not from the rear, it sounds like it was right under, or right in front of the driver's seat.

This morning, after it dried off, the noise is mostly gone, almost inaudible.

Though maybe some bearing somewhere was going out, or wasn't sealed well, since the noise was much worse after deep water, I've never pulled anything on the drive line. Service 4WD light comes on in information screen since november, but Truck will shift into 4hi and 4lo and back without difficulty (you can hear the actuator working) even though the lights on the control panel are out for both 4hi and 4 lo.

anyone noticed that whine before? sounded like I was driving the damn Delorean from Back to the Future.

Gotta tell you it sounds like a front wheel bearing.....especially being under water
could be, but it made noise while shifting, and the front wheels were in free mode (2wd)

the left front bearing was the first thing I ever replaced on the truck, doesn't mean it ISN'T but it really didn't SOUND like a bearing. Those always sound more like a roar to me.

I just did mine, and it was screaming at me, not the usual grinding noise. But it would come and go. I could get it to quiet down by taking a hard left to pull a little weight off of it. Do you have any 12-6 play in the wheel?

@Galante thanks guys, I'll take it home and lift it. If I have to replace that hub again, that'll be frustrating.

when I first replaced it, it was so bad I thought the wheel was going to sheer off. (I had just bought it)
