What's the best way to clean or is it not worth it? I've heard alcohol, carb cleaner,brake cleaner...or just replace it? What are some of the signs of it being dirty?

from what research i have done , its not really worth it if its cleanable.
i guess the part is fairly expensive compared to a $6 can of brake cleaner and 15min of work

just another option...my egr valve was bad on my yukon...it was pretty expensive to put a gm one back in it(i prefer running factory parts)...so i just got a custom tune and deleted it. it was around the same price and if i remember right..it was a little cheaper. the basic tune is 150..i have a street tune now which was a little more pricey but that gives you another option and a little performance out the deal

i bought a Bosch i think? egr for my tbi and it was 50bucks. maybe cheaper. But you can try and clean it, its worth a shot with brake or carb cleaner. I bet your vortec motor EGR valve are a little more money tho then my TBI, worth a shot.

mine was freakn 100 bucks
and sometimes its not that its dirty the diaphragm inside is usually bad
i would recommend a new one, IMO

haha yea, sucks for you! lol i know, i was pissed my EGR trouble code never went off? scrwed up piece!
also when u go to replace it ur gunna have to take if off and get the number on it, USUALLY cuz theres different ones i dont kno why but there is
and i wouldnt bother cleaning it JUST IMO tho
