I'm thinking of converting my 02 8.1L to E-fans. Now I know everyone recommends this mod but I've heard the 8.1 needs a lot more cooling. Flex-a-lite has a kit that flows 5500CFM. Would this be enough for towing 7k lbs in 100* heat?
And if anyone has this motor, did it make a noticeable difference?

your worried about a little heat when your towing 7000lbs with an 8.1 liter wich im going to assume is in a 1 ton yer truck should barely break a sweat its capable of towing double that amount

ive never had the 8.1 liter but ive towed 14000lbs with a stock 7.4 liter 2500 in 100 dagree weather

Well it's a 02 yukon xl 2500 but ya it doesn't notice the trailer very much lol. I've just seen reviews good and bad for the E-fans so I'm still undecided.

i cant decide either with the e fans because
yer stock fan is ran by a belt and efans use current off yer alternator wich also happens to be ran by a belt im just not seein how one could be more beneficial then the other
how many amps to efans typically draw
my stereo draws quite a bit of juice i have a 250 amp alternator to handle it but
so id prefer not to put more of a drain on my alternator unless its worth it becuase here in AZ it gets pretty warm under that hood in the summer

Hi guys...

I have the 8.1 2002 Yukon XL as well... did you end up converting to the E-Fans? I live near Palm Springs California... but used to live in Yuma. All too familiar with 110+ heat lol

Ever thought of keeping the belt driven fan and adding a pusher fan instead of a puller fan? Can have it switched so can turn on when you want like a long climb up a 6-7 degree hill towing whatever.

Each fan on high draws just below 30 amps, mine measured around 27-28 amps. Not sure what they draw on at low but would guess 15 or less. If I remember correctly both are never on high together might be wrong but going off memory without looking at the schematic. I think its one fan on high for engine temp high and one fan on high when running AC. But when both are true its low for both fans. IMO its a great mod since 05+ all have them. I will try to post the schematic to show how there wired up

Jason- I have not installed the E-fans. Still deciding on if they will help or not on the 8.1 due to the larger cooling needs it requires.

Raiderron- The stock fan keeps it cool even when towing so I don't necessarily need an extra fan.

Does anyone know if the 05+ 8.1 came with E-fans? I know the 5.3s did, but can't seem to find an answer to that online.
If they did then I will try and find the stock setup and install it instead of aftermarket fans.

Well worst case you end up selling them. There's no shortage of people looking for them. Shouldn't have a problem getting rid of them.
