Ok guys I am tring to get a plan together for my 98 tahoe. It is 2wd and as some of you have read from me before I am going to be towing a boat with it. It has right now 3.42 gears and G80 LSD. I plan on a rebuild at some point in the next year. I want to go to a 3.73 gear and change the carrier unit. I run into a lot of different boat ramp conditions so I am not sure if either of these will help me or not. I do mainly salt water so the ramps get slick as hell at low tide. I hate planing boat trips around tides and love to pull up and get my boat out with ease as everyone else is spinning like crazy. I have had limited slips that just couldn't hold the slick ramps and end up one wheel wondering it and go no where untill 10 guys weight the back end down so much it just cant slip.
I have been looking at the Auburn ECTED - LOCKER http://www.auburngear.com/aftermarket/product_listing.aspx?category=8946f7ff-e4b5-4b07-b738-c6f9d7f93179

and the Eaton EGerodisc Differentials http://www.eaton.com/EatonCom/ProductsServices/PerformanceProducts/Products/Differentials/EGerodisc/index.htm

Both of these are unlike the E-lockers of the past in that they both use a clutch pack for limited slip action insted of the old open carrier untill engaged and then with the flick of a switch will become fully locked.
Has anyone used or see results from these yet? This seems to good to be true for me because I really don't like the standard locker due to the wieght loaded on the rear and all the turning that I have to do at the ramps. Eventually it will take it's toll. This would be perfect to get lined up and back down and engage the locker. Then just pull the boat out. with 100% torque split to both axles.
What are your thoughts on these units?

The Torsen design positraction is what you need. It is simple, foolproof, has no clutches to wear out and allows turning like a open differential.

Detroit makes one under the name of “Trutrac” or Truetrac”. There are also several other makers out there. They have the worm gears in place of some of the spider gears, which make the magic work.

Here is a link to one of many explanations as to how it works. I have spent a lot of time on boat ramps myself. Positraction is a must, but four wheel drive is even better.

Check out the trutrac and I’m sure you will find most folks agree it’s the best.

So you guys think the worm gear style will have enough holding power to not go one wheel wonder on me?

A Detroit TrueTrac will not slip. It will be there when you need it. It is also one of the few diff's that allows turning without binding. :)
