Yes, I searched but didn't find a really good answer to this. 2008 Denali 6.2l AWD, planning on a cross country move possibly this year. Shopping for either a 6x10 or 6x12 enclosed for my stuff in addition to my 22 Street Glide. Good to go or no......thoughts?

You should be good to go from a towing capacity stand point if it has the towing package. Not sure of the cut-off for needing trailer brakes for your locale, but might be something to look into if your Yukon doesn't already have one.

thanks for the reply. Yes, Denali is equipped for towing, it does not have a brake controller tho. If I buy an enclosed with electric brakes, then I'll need a brake controller? Truck currently doesn't have one.

You have the wiring for a trailer brake controller bundled together under your dash on the driver's side.

Go to GM Upfitter's website and download electrical manual for your truck. Inside there will be instructions and photos on how to get it working.

If the trailer gets over 5000 pounds, you'll want a weight distribution hitch for driving on the highway. It's a good idea to have one anyway with the short wheelbase trucks.

I pulled a 5x10 cargo trailer between Virginia and Denver 6 times over a 3 year span with both our '07 and '12 Yukon XL Denali's. It's a single axle trailer no trailer brakes and it was effortless for both rigs - plenty of motor. If you do get a trailer with brakes, then as James says, adding a controller is easy. I think it took me 20 minutes on my '07 when I needed it after buying a camper. eTrailer.com has several good videos for these trucks that show the installation process and how easy it is. I went with the Tekonsha P3 controller and have no regrets.

this is good know as I'll be driving from WA heading East, and going over the mountains was my only concern. Unless I can find a great deal on a tandem, it'll be a single axle for the trip.

I occasionally haul a 4x8 trailer loaded with approximately 1000 lbs. with no trailer brakes with my 2007 Yukon XL Denali. I don't even think that my truck is aware that it is towing anything, and driving with the trailer isn't any different than driving without it.
