Engine Gone Wild!

Having problem with only able to use 2200 rpm of motor. Under load, anything over 2200 rpm, especially going uphill and engine knocks so violently i think it'll jump through hood. Engine light blinks until I relax accelerator and goes solid when engine calms down - then turns off after day or so.
When cruising, rpm won't increase gradually with accelerator but jumps from specific revs to others; ie: it likes to cruise at 1100 then will jump to 1500 or 1900 or 2200 - anything more and it's toast.

Any ideas?

Check your codes from the SES light, be a good place to start. most auto parts stores will have a scanner you can use to pull the codes.

LOL a blinking engine light means something is majorly wrong ... I'm guessing from your description that it's super lean.

A blinking SES light indicates cylinder misfiring. A scan will reveal why it is misfiring. If you don not have one go to your local parts store to see if they will scan it for you for free and report the code back here. More vehicle model details also needed please.

If they say it is your MAF sensor do not use anything but a Delphi/ACDelco part which is expensive but cheaper elsewhere(about $160 on amazon).
