Hey guys,

Was loving my 02 Yukon till an engine knock started. Only in high idle (in gear) and at cold start. Worse as it gets colder out. Oil fresh, fuel system just flushed. Found some stuff through Google saying GM is shrugging it off as harmless piston slap... yes that's right, HARMLESS PISTON SLAP...??

It seems my dealer is only interested in exploring what the service bulletins have to say... which is nothing. At least until my warrranty runs out...

Anyone else have this problem?

(edit) seems to only affect the 99-02 models. Problem fixed for 03.

I have it too in my 02 Tahoe. Passenger side, bad when cold, in gear......haven't heard it since May or so, but I know it will be back come fall. My truck didn't start the knock until it got about 120K miles on it.

Maybe I will try a 10W oil to see if it will "cushion" the cylinder walls enough to reduce it.

It is a common "non-problem" with these engines

my 03 never had it, but the coating they did, didn't work all the 03+, alot of guys still got it. lots of guys have had it for 150,000 miles and everything is fine.

My 2002 had it since new(well 800 miles). Sold it at 95,000 miles w/ no problems. I have a lot of friends with trucks affected by it that have no problems, other than the fact that it is annoying.
