In the last year I purchased the red GSTP brand oil filter cutter on amazon $25,
and I like the red one better than
The blue one that I've had for 25 yrs (aircraft supply).

I have run Amsoil many times in my vehicles since 2009. That's when I became a preferred Amsoil customer. It's good stuff. Here's a thread I did when I ran it in my Denali not long ago:

I'm currently running Amsoil (10 gals) in the 12.7L Detroit that's in our Prevost bus/mh.

I run Amsoil atf, gear oil, and grease in my vehicles too.

If I were to describe any 1 oil brand as "THE BEST" it would be HPL by:

Customer Service beyond compare. After talking to you, they'll custom blend you whatever is decided. They have on the shelf products too. Of course you don't get something for nothing.
I would avoid any Fram . Amsoil or wix filter. O7 with over 300k motor never touched!

yeah, funny thing that. fram now makes good filters, on the level and even some applications off the same line as the Amsoil filter and the wix lags behind most as far as micron ratings go.

the days of the old orange 2$ fram being the cheapest worst filter on the market are long gone.


but yes, nothing is better than fresh oil changes.

I'll use any brand oil filter - but NEVER any brand's 'basic' or 'economy' or 'low-budget' offering.
Fram has SEVEN different types oil filter for Gen3 V8s (trying to confuse me, eh?)
Purolator has three
Wix has two
So long as I avoid the bottom-rung ...

Serious question. What is the purpose in this? I only understand about half of what I’m reading here.

We measure things that are EASY for idjits to measure, like distance traveled, or MpGs,
then we act like those measurements reliably indicate how much wear and tear the engine / transmission / vehicle has accumulated.
(3,000 stop'n'go Manhattan rush hour miles = how many thousands of highway miles?)

No matter what, used engine oil analysis provides more useful data to 'estimate' how well the engine is aging / wearing along.
Same applies to transmission fluid, by the way.

But distance is SO much easier to measure ... kinda like weighing yourself instead of measuring your waist-to-hip ratio (and BMI is just plain idiotic).

So I have about 4.5 quarts of used oil and a brutalized filter. (Had to resort to high level caveman means to get the damn thing off.) Can I just send this off and have it analyzed? Or is this like a racing/corporate thing? Side note. The used oil collection pan had rear end lube in it immediately prior.

Not sure what you mean by 'racing / corporate thing'? They do analyze their used motor oil far more often than normal people do, goes with the territory.

You don't send off your used oil filter - no way to put a lid on it (yet ...).
When you drain your oil from the pan, get some of that into the cup they provide, then screw on the lid, then mail it off to them.
They'll analyze both the oil, AND whatever they find in the oil.
They'll let you know what's normal, what's getting old, and if anything's out of the ordinary.

(Personally I'd prefer draining the used oil out of the filter into the sample container, 'cause I'm a pessimist.)
