My wife and I are planning on buying one of these SUVS My ? is which is better in the winter we live in the country and we have had 4x4's all the time but we test drove a ESV and it is sweet as hell and it seems heavier then the XL. So any esv or xl owners give us any real world exp. with these SUVS? thanks for your time

Welcome fellow bow hunter! The ESV has all wheel drive. Selectable 4X4 is a better system and that is the reason I say get the Yukon XL 4X4 for your situation. BUT the power of the 6.2 is second to none in the escalade.

Yukon XL 4X4 benefits.

1. Better 4X4 system
2. Cheaper
3. Better gas mileage

Escalade benefits

1. More power
2. More luxurious

Choose your poison. I think you would be happy with either one but the real 4X4 would be the one i would pick in your situation.

My mom had an 07 ESV. Much nicer than a standard Yukon, but the Yukon might be a little better for 4x4 purposes. I don't think there would be much difference though. I'd pick the ESV.

Go for the Yukon XL 3/4 ton!!! If you're out in the country and are going to be ******* it, get the heavy duty suburban/yukon. I can't think of too many wiz bang things on the escalade that are a priority over the utility of the 4wd of the yukon or the heavy dutyness of the 3/4 ton. And those Escalade 22's will not do so great in the winter I would imagine.

I never even thought about the 3/4 ton Yukon XL! That is what I would get for sure! Plus you also get the bigger engine AND stronger transmission with the 3/4 ton so it is a win win situation in every aspect minus a SLIGHT decrease in interior luxury.

Yukon denali XL or the Escalade. You can't beat the luxury of either. The AWD works better in the snow than the 4x4. The 4x4 is better for crawlin through the deepest sand and down very steep hills (low range) but the AWD sends the power where it neds to be unlike the 4x4 which just splits the diff's..... Outerbanks tested.... Outerbanks approved.. Good Luck!

I looked at the Escalade but I couldn't figure out why it cost $15-20k more than my Yukon XL Denali. Escalade has HIDs and a few other items but not $15k worth. They still have fake wood unless you get the platinum edition which is another $10k.

I had 4x4 in my Envoy and I really like AWD better. My wife doesn't have to worry about what setting the 4x4 is in. The 6.2 is amazing and I average 17-20mpg on trips. With the 31 gal gas tank that puts range in the high 500 range. It also has a fantastic exhaust note. I got my Denali XL mentioned below for about $55k last year. Escaldes started north of $70k. Insurance was $25 a month difference which is big when I'm only paying $50 or so for my Yukon.

Having owned both, its hard to beat the feel of the Escalade.

AWD rocks for "soccer mom" winter days.
4wd is good for the real offroading stuff. Looking at the angles of the Yukon, I wouldn't take it where H3 or Jeeps go.

If you got the scrilla, go with a ESV or a Denali. Denalis have an escalade engine and transfer case awd.
