Esky Backup Camera Install

Strangely this "fully loaded" rig didn't have a backup camera. So I just rectified that today. Used a generic eBay camera with wireless RF transmitter because I was lazy and didn't want to route wire the entire cab length. Very happy with the decision. A little interference occasionally, but great picture otherwise.

For headunit, used the olive green wire in the drivers A-pillar to trigger the headunit reverse trigger so it switches to camera automatically on backup.

For the camera, it is powered off the reverse + wire for the passenger backup light. Routed the wire up through the rear hatch rubber pass-thru...that was a major PITA...wow! But totally worth it so the install shows no wires.

Nice... This is one of the features I am missing also... but I am trying to keep the head unit stock, which makes the solution much more expensive.

although, I would use a different camera. I hate that style!

I have the OEM Ford version of that on my Excursion. Video feeds to the headunit and the rearview mirror. I actually like having the screen in the rearview mirror more. You can look out the back and see the video screen at same time...makes more sense to me.

Didn't use it with the Esky though because of the OnStar stuff. Wasn't sure what would happen if I removed it, and I already had the Pioneer Headunit

used the 3/4" hole saw that came with my camera. very easy. pulled the interior trim off the rear hatch and did some measureing. there is a perfect spot for it interior under the hatch handle. made sure of the spot, then taped it off and drilled.

make sure to tape off the area to prevent paint from flaking!
