So I'm tracing down why my ac keeps freezing. I have changed low pressure sensor cabin air temp sensor orifice tube and now I finally got a code that popped up which is saying the evaporator temp sensor is bad. For the life of me I cannot locate this sensor can anyone guide me through replacing it without taking the dash out? It's a 2009 Tahoe Ltz with climate control

So for anyone else having this issue. after many hours of searching and stumping my mechanic and gm parts department I've finally figured out there is no sensor , gm didn't put the sensor in until 2010 even tho it's throwing the code for evaporator temp sensor. My next step is to taking it in for reprogramming the climate controls

If your AC keeps freezing (I assume you mean the evap is getting so cold that ice is forming?) then you either have low air flow through the evap and or possible low refrigerant charge.

There is a refrigerant temperature sensor listed for yours though, 15-51267 or 25953349.

apparently they did not put in those sensors until 2010, every parts catalog and even the dealer says that that sensor fits my Tahoe, they even looked it up from my vin number . But when I went to replace it I have no spot for the sensor no plug or any sign of it. So my mechanic called some tech that programs the software for his scanners and found a service bulletin that stated 2009 and previous models do not have the sensor so when the code ( can't remember the code exactly) for evaporator temperature sensor comes across it's most likely the climate control panel

Looks like if you had it it is on top of the airbox or just inside with the heater core, #37 in the drawing.

I do have an '09 and a Tech-2. If your buddy knows what the readout is called in the scan tool I can double check mine. GMPartsKing shows it for my truck but GMPartsDirect says no.

@gpracer1 is one of our resident AC guys, I always go to him for help with AC stuff. Have you checked the refrigerant readings with a manifold?

Thanks for all the replies, I got it figured out, the climate control board lost its program somehow. Got it reprogrammed and works like a charm now. Spent close to 500 bucks trying to figure it out though lol

I was looking at that diagram too, and follow steps from a member on here, definitely no sensor that at all

That was the price of a shiny new Tech-2 and a subscription to ACDelco for programming with a nice lunch leftover.
