Question...

Hi guys,

So, I have had my exhaust for a week and the stainless tips are already yellow. WTF!!! Going to have to call the guy and see if he can replace them with chrome tips instead. Sucks because I have to drive 1 hour to get this fixed.

What tips do you have? Some supplied by him or a name brand like SLP or Volant?

I'd be cautious with chrome tips. They'll have a tendency to rust with a quickness if you don't keep them polished real good. I've seen those rust out inside of a year here in Mo and we're not that far north.

alot of the muffler shop stainless tips are low grade and will discolor or turn somewhat golden pretty fast. the ones i had on my silverado did that but the SS tips i have on the tundra and on our XL both seem to hold up well. it has to do with the low grade SS and the heat. SS will almost always have a golden hue to it though if compared directly to chrome right beside it....good luck. and nice setup.

So I was going to try to get the yellow out, but I don't want to keep cleaning it all the time. I think I will look for some better quality stainless steel tips. I had thought about ordering some before I got the muffler and decided not to. Oh well. Any recommendations on some tips that will hold up?

Update and soundclip

I was able to get the yellow out with some Blue Magic Polish. Glad that I did not have to spend anymore money on the exhaust.

Here is a soundclip. Not too loud, but loud enough for me.

No, it doesn't. I was told the yellowing or golding was due to the hot temperature of the exhaust. The tips were fine until I drove down to LA, which was 6 hours. Figure that I will have to repolish them after every long road trip.

Good luck with that.
