My 1995 stock 2 door Yukon needs an exhaust and I also need to pass a smog test. Last test 2 years ago revealed I needed a new cat so that is my dilema. I have found that no one makes a cat back system for a 2 door but Gibson or Dynomax. Since I need a cat and future plans are for headers what cat would you recommend that I can use now and then do headers to a y pipe to the cat back.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

When you put headers on you'll most likely have to redo most of the piping for the exhaust anyway. Why not just do the whole shibang now and get it all out of the way?

To answer your original question, I'd take it up to your local muffler shop and get the muffler(s) you want for the sound you want and have them create a custom system for you and not limit yourself to just prefabbed cat back exhaust systems that you can order off the net or catalog.

Just my .02 cents....

You can go to any exhaust shop and they will build one a custom set up for you. They would be able to bend pipes to where you want them to sit, and weld it all together. This is probably your best option and probably cheaper than the cat back systems you have to order.

A lot of people on here run the hi-flow MagnaFlow cats and a Magnaflow exhaust. Couple that with a set of long tube headers and you have a pretty tight exhaust set up.

The exhaust shops around here are out of thier minds. To get something bent up in stainless would run me more than the Gibson system I am looking at and the Gibson is 3 inch mandrel bent tube.

Right now all I want is a good exhaust system that I will not have to replace in two years and I can always keep it around for putting on to do my smog test. I would fail it with headers and such because I modified it. If I go in stock I am safe.

I think I will get a Magnaflow cat and cut off the one that is there now and get a flange pipe made so I can bolt up the cat back system. I can pass the smog test and start using the truck again on weekends.

Then what's the point of putting headers on at all cuz the next time you get inspected you wouldn't pass, right, and you'd just have to redo your exhaust again.

Here's what you can do. Buy some POS camp North of Parry Sound. You just need it for the address. Register your truck with the 'camp' address. Bingo! No drive clean testing. Then install whatever exhaust you want. MTO Plate Stickers are only $34/year too! Plus you get someplace to go relax at. What more could a guy ask for!
