I put this in exterior, buy not really sure where it should live.

Hello - This question is in relation to a 2011 Yukon XL 2500; but I am sure it applies to all of these body styles. I bought the truck used so it is new to me.

When I open the front doors I notice there is a piece of felt looking material (about 1/4" think, grey, sound deadening?). It looks to be form fitting to the area, but it's odd to me it is exposed and actually gets wet while driving if conditions are rainy or snowy.

Is this normal? Should it be elsewhere?

Sounds like the door panel may have been removed at some point and that Styrofoam backer is sticking out at the bottom? Shouldnt pose any problems. Door panel is easily removed with three 10mm bolts and a small screwdriver to pop off the trim panels, if you wanted to check it. One behind the small trim panel behind the door handle pull, the other two behind the trim at the grab handle. Remove the lock piece by prying out on the small square in the middle of the piece, and the sail panel has 3 clips. Pull out of the whole door panel to remove it.

It is not in or on the door at all, when the door is open, you can see it in the fenders. I will try and get a picture ASAP.

i've seen it as well and wondered the same thing. i see it's listed as a "fender insulator" on the parts sites.
