f f f f !!!! UPDATE in last post

Got the new tail light circuit board, replaced it..signal worked for a minute and blew the fuse again. WTF????? This is driving me crazy. It's just one side...would a bad turn signal switch cause just ONE side not to work? It seems like once I take the assembly apart, the signal works for a little bit then as soon as I get it back on the road it blows again so that's why I was thinking it was the circuit board. I'm at a total loss now. It's hard for me to believe that it's a problem somewhere in the wiring under the truck since the wires are inside a split loom and I don't see how one of the wires would get cut while rubbing against something. The next thing I'm going to do is look for some of the pigtails to the assemblies. If that doesn't do it, I guess I'll have to look into replacing the signal switch.

theres a connector behind the trailer hitch i believe its a 4 or 5 wire plug, check that connector they get corroded sometimes or can short out

Hm....I'll have to take a look at that. Thanks for the response! I was starting to hear crickets in here.

Mike, go to your nearest O'reilly and go ahead and see if they have a haynes or chilton manual, and get the wiring diagram there. They usually will let you. If not tell them to call Tech support and ask for me, I will talk to them and help you out!!!!!

Hey thanks man...I'll try that out tomorrow...hell I might as well buy the thing...it might just come in handy but I will look into it. I'm also going to check the trailer lighting and the ground on both sides and see what's going on with it. i hear that the switches can go bad so that may be what happened, i just need to exhaust everything else before trying that because from what i hear, it's not something that just anyone can or should do.

I know this may sound dumb but did you get the right bulbs and are you sure? I had a similar problem on an older truck. I put in dual prong instead of single when replacing turn signals and it caused all kinds of crazy stuff to happen...just a thought

not crazy at all...i had to replace a bulb a while back....the guy said they were all the same so i bought it and put it in but i do think one of them was wrong. i did find a couple of fuses that were in the wrong place so i swapped them out. the thing is...i can get both of the front blinkers out of the lenses and the one in the back out of the lens and they work fine. i put everything back together and drive around the block and bam. fuse blows. funny thing is, i can run the emergency lights just fine. i just don't get it. maybe its the switch in the steering column?

Wait, so your 4-way flashers work fine, but you blow a fuse when you use the turn signal? We need more details.... Do a detailed functions check, and list back to us what works/doesn't work, what behavior blows the fuse. :) Good luck with this one. This sucks.

Everything works except for the passenger signal. As soon as I use it...I get four, maybe 5 good flashes and it blows the turn/bu fuse. It's only the passenger side. Brake lights work fine, reverse lights work fine, I replaced the bulbs, the one pig tail on that rear side and replaced the circuit board. All of the wiring is in the split loom so it's hard for me to believe that one of those wires is shorting to the frame or some sort of metal. I'm starting to lean more and more towards the turn signal switch in the steering column. I'm reading more and more that they go bad and that constant moving of the tilt, which I had to do a lot of when I installed my head unit, can short out some wires, that's when all the problems started. I also read that it's a PITA to replace that switch so I'm really not looking forward to it. I'd hate to replace it only to find out that doesn't fix it but then again, I'd hate to pay someone to trace it down to where it is in the wiring only to find out it's the switch. Either way, I'm thinking I'm gonna pay for this and there's no way around it.
